The actual pictures are generally made with 3d apps like blender, sketchup which are both free.

Sketchup is nasssty poorly developed crap,(fitting Google own it)  I don't know what is worse though snivelling Google infested spyware loaded on your computer, or getting a pro version via piratebay with possible chance of dodgy cracked installer.

Besides if you were gonna pirate route, you might aswel try 3dsmax or maya.. both infinitely better.
