How to ask
« on: October 15, 2012, 02:15:29 am »
Updates will be in yellow
There is one thing I don't like about this server, for example:

Bob: koolio
Bob: koolio,KOOLIO,KKKKKKKKOOOOOOOOOLLLLLLLLLLIIIIOO

Now this is about etiquette don't be a Bob, but ask politely like:

Good_guy_Greg: Koolio can you help getting rid of these signs?

NOTE: not  only you ask but you tell us why you need help within the same line to save everyone time from asking...

Bob: KOOLIO!
Koolio: yh?
Bob: Can you help
koolio: with what?
Bob: can you COMEZ!!!!1!!!!!

Please dont do that

Also when you ask
  • Dont spam the question
  • Dont wait five seconds and ask again we might be replying or lagging
Also: there is no stupid question, dont be afraid to ask in normal chat, we understand if your new to minecraft or bukkit/ a plugin like towny(we where like you at one point).  Plus dont ask to be ranked up to staff/support you earn those ranks.

ASK THE RIGHT PEOPLE

Koolio: can do anything
Support: can do most things
STAFF CANNOT: use WE, give town blocks, rank you up (like rank up to member), cannot ban

How to ask for WorldEdit
:
Now there are alot of people wanting world edit and i thought that this is needed:
Things to know about WE
  • WE is not as simple as you think
  • In order to move things there need to be to opposite points of a cuboid
I wont go into too much detail but if you want to see more here is this> http://wiki.sk89q.com/wiki/WorldEdit/Selection#Selecting_cuboids
Now you dont need to read that much unless you want to use it for single player but when you ask SUPPORT OR UP for WE make sure you have the building you want, the new location and 2 opposite ends of a cuboid marked out if possible
And i think for these reasons some support haven't  done any WE involving jobs because it gets annoying
WE is a powerful tool and it's not just to move stuff So when you ask be specific as possible.

Do's and dont of waiting
DO:
  • wait patiently
  • not annoying staff
Dont:
  • ask every second you get
  • say common where are you im waiting!
We know your waiting be we might be lagging or other stuff also use [TAB] to see which staff is online

One last thing: Dont ask for someone to ban a player for pvp logging/griefing (depends)/using nodus, and dont ask for free items(unless it's sponges OR depending on the circumstances)

===What is available?===

Spawners are for $30,000

Note:No creepers, No Ghasts, No Boss Mobs, Nether mobs stay in the nether!

Warp Signs are for $20,000
Note:No warps to The End, or to a end portal

World edits are free

Note:Only support can WE, read the section on how to ask for WE

Sponges are free

Note:Each staff member has limits for how many you get at a time, dont ask for 64+

Town Blocks are $1000 Each

Note:Only support can sell, only mayors of towns can buy, 50 blocks at a time

Thanks for reading ~bluedudex2

EDIT: Make sure to read koolio's post down below for even more detail on this subject!

... I'll sticky this post, thanks bluedudex2.

Will be looking at making another ingame announcement that makes this more concise and less Koolio Etiquette specific .

  - §lEtiquette§f, how not to be annoy, especially to §c~§5Koolio
  - §bDo not ask to ask! Instead politely ask the question, wait abit :)
  - §aGOOD example§a "Koolio, how to vote for your awesome server?"
  - §eWhat not to do "Koolio?" "Koolio??!?!"§c..ad nauseam, bad idea!

Another announcement example...

  - §f§l------------Rules------------
  - $s$s§4- Don't Spam! Also ask a question once, not over and over.
  - $s$s§c- No Advertising! Use server lists for that etc.
  - $s$s§6- No hacks! Heavy nocheat spam will get you in trouble!
  - $s$s§e- Try not to annoy anyone! tp/spawn killing and town trolling.
  - $s$s§a- Serious greifing will be restored and you rolled out server.

If anyone wants to have a go at taking those examples and making one that could be used on the server for any specific reason they think would help, then go ahead.. if its good, you can get your own command version of an announcement you've made aswel (not to be spammed or abused of course).

Can have as many lines as you want though max 6 is usually more than enough, the length per line needs to be roughly the same as the above, or the line gets split onto a new line and ruins pre formated the look.

Good color formatting helps.. also instead of &a for green.. the plugin requires §a

=====================================

And yeh it stopped being polite to ask for someone to help(without explicilty saying exactly what it is you need help with) over the internet since like 'nineteen footsack' :D

Mainly because whoever that person who is that might be able to help you, then has to then engage in a typing back just to ask you what you need help with exactly...

Typing isn't as fast as just talking to someone orally.

Net Etiquette
Just ask the question

It's irritating when people ask "Can someone help?" or they ask just one particular person.

If you have a question, then just go ahead and ask it out to everyone, and if you need help with something... Then also state exactly what you need help with and it will usually help your request get sorted out faster, if you say exactly why you need something done.

-"Can you come here"...

Asking this without, already saying why it is you need someone to come to you, is another very annoying question, oftens leads someone to then have to ask you why they need to come to you. Something you should have already stated beforehand.

-"I've lost my items"...

If you have lost your items, you should be saying why you have, and what items were the most important that you want replacing. Cases like this really help if you just sum up all the stuff you had lost, in the form of diamonds. It's easier for staff to reimburse you money or particular items... this totally excludes enchanted items.

Help yourself, get better help..

If you aren't getting the help you need, then maybe you should think about what it is you are asking, and how you are asking it. Addressing both those areas and trying again might lead to your request being fore filled.

Koolio, you should add this as an command. There's so many people I want to slap this on their faces when they keep asking me for help.
